BOSTIK SEAL 'N' FLEX 1

High performance one part polyurethane joint sealant

DESCRIPTION:
Bostik
SEAL 'N' FLEX is a one component, low modulus class A, polyurethane sealant curing via air humidity to form a soft, elastic, weatherproof seal.

APPLICATIONS:

Bostik SEAL 'N' FLEX is designed for sealing joints where a high performance sealant is required in:

  • Expansion and construction joints in precast and insitu concrete.
  • Brick, blockwork and plasterboard.
  • Window and door perimeter sealing.
  • Sandstone, Marble, granite and GRC facades.
  • External cladding, curtain wall, etc.
  • Low head potable water use, water tanks, etc.

ADVANTAGES:
  • High durability.
  • Excellent weathering resistance.
  • Can be over painted. (refer limitations)
  • Non staining.
  • 50% total joint movement.
  • Excellent acoustic ratings.
  • Australian Made.

STANDARDS:
International Performance Standards

  • DIN 18540
  • ASTM C920 -1986
  • BS 4254 - 1983
  • AS 1526 - 1973

Approvals:

  • Agricultural approval New Zealand
  • French approval - S.N.J.F. & C.E.B.T.P.

WIND/WATER TEST:
Wind/water penetration tests were carried out by the C.S.I.R.O. Building Research Centre, Randwick, Sydney, Australia on a mock up four panel rig of RPC-XL crete fibre cement panels, six metres by six metres. The prototype was caulked with
SEAL 'N' FLEX and closed cell backer rod of nominal joint width 16 mm and depth 10 mm.

CSIRO JOINT DESIGN:
The wind speed test was carried out to the equivalent of wind gusts to 100 kph. No leaks occurred. The wind speed was taken up to 220 kph - SEAL 'N' FLEX would not break down, no water leaks evident.
A small portion of vertical joint SEAL 'N' FLEX was removed, baffle only remained, leaks occurred at 30 kph.

JOINT DESIGN:
More joint movement con be accommodated in a thin bead of sealant than a thick bead. Bostik
SEAL 'N' FLEX polyurethane sealant depth should be a minimum of 6mm, or half of the joint width, whichever is greater. Back-up materials impregnated with oil or bitumen are not to be used. Adhesion between the back-up material and sealant must not occur because of the excessive stresses exerted on the product may cause failure of the sealant. Bostik recommend bond breaker tape or similar.
